ใกล้ /klây/ and ไกล /klay /

Constructions with ใกล้ /klây/ 'near' and ไกล /klay / 'far' are illustrated below:

ใกล้ (กับ/กะ) กรุงเทพฯ klây (kàp/kà) kruŋthêep	near Bangkok

กะ /kà / can only be used after ใกล้ /klây/ when the word following begins with a consonant. The pairs of sentences below are equivalent in meaning:
